In maths the Senior Infants have been learning about capacity. We did lots of investigations using a variety of substances e.g. water, rice, flour, pasta and sand (yes, you can imagine the mess). The children experienced filling and emptying a variety of containers. We then investigated measuring how much of a substance certain containers would hold. We selected the most appropriate measuring container e.g. a jug to fill a bucket or a spoon to fill an egg cup. Then we counted how many spoon fulls or jug fulls were needed to fill the egg cup or the bucket. We had to remember to make sure the measuring container was full each time we counted it to make sure it was a fair measurement. We had great fun.
